We are excited and proud to announce that the Aveda Institute South Florida has just been awarded THREE Globes from the Green Globes Building Institute for our commitment to environmental practices and energy management.
This certification positions the Aveda Institute South Florida as the first Green Globe-certified commercial building in Florida—and secures our claim of being the greenest beauty school in the world.
Green Globes is a revolutionary building environmental assessment and management tool that measures not only the environmental components of our building—such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting and indigenous landscaping plan—but which also evaluates the long-term effects of these components and the resulting decline in energy use. Green Globes also conducts a lifecycle assessment and evaluates the management programs that we have put in place to continually measure and improve our energy output. In short, this means that over the years, we will continue to reduce our environmental impact.
Thanks to all partners involved in creating the building, and to the South Florida team for their commitment to managing this process. For more information about Green Globes, visit http://www.greenglobes.com.

The Power of Wind
Most people know AVEDA is the world’s first beauty company to make all of its products with 100% wind power – but did you know AVEDA is also the ONLY company in the world to offer aerosols with a net-zero impact on global warming?? Through a partnership with Native Energy, AVEDA is funding renewable energy projects to ensure that both Air Control and Control Force have no effect on the Earth’s climate. AVEDA is the only beauty manufacturer that offsets the CO2 associated during manufacturing, transportation and use of its entire aerosol hairsprays sold globally – making it the MOST environmental choice!!! Visit beautyschool.me www.NativeEnergy.com and Aveda.com for more information.

While we are proud of our title as a Beauty School, or Cosmetology School, whichever you prefer, we really are so much more than just another Beauty School in Florida. Our schools continue to participate in the Matter of Trust program in which hair is turned into mats and booms used for absorbing oil. Yes, that would include the massive oil spill that is polluting our beautiful Gulf of Mexico and will inevitably stain the Florida shoreline. To date, Aveda Institute St. Petersburg has sent seven boxes of hair to the organization and three from Aveda Institute Orlando. Aveda Institute Tallahassee has two boxes packed and ready for shipping and Aveda Institute South Florida has two 50-gallon trash bags collected to date…that’s a lot of hair!! Thank you to our wonderful team, and guests, for supporting these efforts and the world we live in!

Hair Soaks Up Oil Spill

Who would have ever thought a beauty school, and a simple haircut, could help with an oil spill? Certainly not us, but it’s a fact! In light of the recent Gulf Oil Spill, Aveda Institutes Florida, consisting of four cosmetology schools in Florida, is collecting the hair from client haircuts, and donating it to the wonderful organization, Matter of Trust. Matter of Trust uses the donated hair to make hair mats and hair booms to absorb oil. As the oil from the Gulf threatens our shorelines, these mats/booms will assist with the daunting effort to clean up the oil.

Our Aveda network consisting of the Aveda Institutes of Florida, Aveda salons, and our friends and families (and some puppy dogs) all stepped up across the state to help raise awareness for clean water. We had great turn outs at all of the walk locations rain or shine.
Here is a video of one of the Earth Month Walks for Water that took place in South Florida.
We hope you join us again next year!
