Each year the
Aveda Institutes Florida awards a scholarship to one lucky contestant, per institute, who exhibits exceptional skills in the field of cosmetology. The scholarship entails a one year, fully paid, tuition to attend either of our four beauty schools in Florida. This year, our contestants competed at the Aveda Institute Orlando in a true fashion show-style competition, runway and all. They transformed a model and were judged on not only their creativity, but their exceptional execution and technique. A special “thanks” goes out to our judges, Carl Dunn – CEO Pagentry Magazine; Aixa Diaz – News Anchor WESH Ch. 4; Megan Clementi – Miss Florida USA 2010 and Josh Perez – Production Manager Full Sail University.
Winners were: Amy Starks, Aveda Institute Orlando; Jordan Ortega, Aveda Institute South Florida; Arielle Lavasseur, Aveda Institute St. Petersburg and Orphelia Patterson, Aveda Institute Tallahassee.
Be sure to stop by either one of these cosmetology schools to witness their talent first hand.

The wonderful team at the Aveda Institute Tallahassee works hard to make a difference in their community providing services and assistance to a number of groups in need. Ladies from the Chelsea House, a transition home for homeless women, recieved the royal treatment Christmas Eve, and many had the time of their lives. They received manicures, shoulder massages, hair and makeup applications from the Aveda Institute. Dressed in their best attire, they boarded a limousine and cruised neighborhoods in search of the best holiday light display in town. In addition to the Aveda Institute, various businesses, including Mikes Limousine, Walmart, Starbucks, The Cake Shop, Peterbrooke Chocolatier, Winn-Dixie and realtor, Sandra Purvis, donated food, transportation, and money in support of the event.

The endless opportunities available to an AVEDA Institute graduate are commonly taken for granted. Yet, some of our graduates have taken their education, talent, and desire to excel, to the next level by teaching and promoting the Aveda experience throughout the beauty and product network.
Cresent Davis, a 2008 Aveda Institute Tallahassee graduate, has taken her remarkable talent and interest in the beauty industry to that level…
While a student, Cresent entered into the Edwin Neill Full Potential Competition where her passion for makeup was ignited. Her introduction to the variety of palettes made its mark on her and changed the course of her career. From that point forward, she was determined to take Aveda makeup to an entirely different spectrum of the beauty industry while educating people on the countless impressions and final touches that could be achieved with Aveda’s all-natural makeup.
She began doing freelance work as a makeup artist in the local Tallahassee area, from weddings, to proms, to local salon events and large-scale charity balls. She even worked closely with the FSU Film School. This exposure led to a position as a makeup artist for the FSU thesis film, Drift. Her debut was created entirely with the use of Aveda makeup. Cresent’s talent led to a position as Makeup Director for six more contracted films and the honor of being published in Tallahassee magazine.
Her goal of becoming an Aveda Global Makeup Professional is well under way and her desire to teach and educate Aveda students and professionals on Aveda makeup is sure to take her to the top!
Congratulations Cresent – you are a true inspiration!
