Hair Soaks Up Oil Spill

Who would have ever thought a beauty school, and a simple haircut, could help with an oil spill? Certainly not us, but it’s a fact!  In light of the recent Gulf Oil Spill, Aveda Institutes Florida, consisting of four cosmetology schools in Florida, is collecting the hair from client haircuts, and donating it to the wonderful organization, Matter of Trust.  Matter of Trust uses the donated hair to make hair mats and hair booms to absorb oil.  As the oil from the Gulf threatens our shorelines, these mats/booms will assist with the daunting effort to clean up the oil.

  1. First the BP Gulf oil spill, now we see that the second one has exploded in Louisiana. I sure hope that this doesn’t mean more environmental damage. On the other hand, this country needs this domestic energy. This such a complex problem to figure out. I’m not sure what the solution is.
